In the second quarter of 2025, the top news and magazine applications in the United States showed varied performance trends across downloads, revenue, and active users. This analysis, based on Sensor Tower data, offers insights into the dynamics of these leading apps.

X (Formerly Twitter) demonstrated significant activity with weekly revenue peaking at around $2M in early April, followed by a gradual decline to approximately $1.5M by late June. Downloads fluctuated, reaching a high of 345K in mid-June, while weekly active users remained robust, hitting over 54M in early June.

The Wall Street Journal. News maintained steady revenue, closing the quarter with about $918K. Downloads saw a declining trend, starting at 15.6K and ending at 8.3K. Active users hovered around 1.2M, showing some fluctuation throughout the quarter.

NYTimes: US and Global News experienced a rise in weekly revenue, peaking at approximately $1.5M in late June. Downloads varied, with a slight uptick to 29.9K towards the end of the quarter. Active users showed resilience, averaging around 7M.
